Patient Instructions

  2. 2Do not apply cream or lotion to your chest prior to Ambulatory Arrhythmia Monitoring.
  3. 3Wear comfortable clothes and running shoes for Treadmill Stress Test.

  5. 5Do not eat for 3 hours prior to Stress Echocardiography and no caffeine for 6 hours prior.
  6. 6Bring comfortable clothes and running shoes for Stress Echocardiography.
  7. 7Your cardiologist may ask you to hold certain medications (beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers) for Stress Echocardiography.
  8. 8No special preparation is required for Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring; you may perform your usual daily activities.
  9. 9Do not eat for 8-12 hours prior to Nuclear Myocardial Perfusion Scanning and avoid caffeine for 24-48 hours.
  10. 10Wear comfortable clothes and shoes if exercising on the treadmill for Nuclear Myocardial Perfusion Scanning.
  11. 11Patients usually need to hold their cardiac medications prior to Nuclear Myocardial Perfusion Scanning unless otherwise instructed by their physician.
  12. 12Bring a list of your medications for Nuclear Myocardial Perfusion Scanning.
  13. 13Do not eat for 4 hours prior to Radionuclide Angiography (MUGA).
  14. 14Do not eat or drink for 6 hours prior to Transesophageal Echocardiography and no clear fluids for 2 hours.
  15. 15Bring a list of your medications for Transesophageal Echocardiography.
  16. 16Arrange for someone to bring you to and from the procedure for Transesophageal Echocardiography as you are instructed not to drive for the remainder of the day (minimum 12 hours).
  17. 17You will be prescribed a medication to slow down your heart to be taken one hour prior to Coronary CTA.
  18. 18Avoid caffeine and drinks or alcohol for 24 hours before Cardiac PET.
  19. 19Do not eat for 6 hours before Cardiac PET.
  20. 20Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for Cardiac PET.
  21. 21If you have diabetes on insulin, ask your doctor about how much insulin you can take before Cardiac PET.
  22. 22Do not eat or drink for 2 hours prior to Head-up Tilt Table Testing.
  23. 23Do not eat or drink anything for 6-8 hours before Electrophysiology Study/Catheter Ablation.
  24. 24Take your medications as prescribed unless your doctor asks you to stop specific ones prior (e.g., anti-arrhythmics) for Electrophysiology Study/Catheter Ablation.
  25. 25Have someone bring you to and from the appointment for Electrophysiology Study/Catheter Ablation as you are instructed not to drive.
  26. 26Do not eat or drink anything for 6-8 hours before Cardiac Catheterization.
  27. 27Take your medications as prescribed for Cardiac Catheterization; your doctor may prescribe additional blood thinners if you are going to get a stent.
  28. 28Arrange to have someone bring you home after Cardiac Catheterization as you are instructed not to drive.
  29. 29Do not eat or drink for 6-8 hours prior to Permanent Pacemaker/ICD Implantation.
  30. 30If you are on a blood thinner, please ask for instructions on if and when to stop it prior to Permanent Pacemaker/ICD Implantation.
  31. 31Arrange to have someone drive you home after Permanent Pacemaker/ICD Implantation as there are driving restrictions post-implant depending on the reason for the device.
