  4. 4Bring sugar-free chewing gum to the hospital on the day of surgery.
  5. 5Eat and drink as soon as you and your healthcare team feel safe after surgery.
  6. 6Sit in a chair as soon as you and your healthcare team feel safe after surgery.
  7. 7Walk to the bathroom and hallway as soon as you and your healthcare team feel safe after surgery.
  8. 8For breast reconstruction, discontinue smoking at least three months before and one month after surgery if you smoke.
