Patient Age Range:Adults for Assistive Technology and Specialized Seating Services (18 years or older for full-time wheelchair users). All ages for Women's Health services. All HSC staff, patients, and community members for PAR Health Services.
Patient Instructions
  1. 1Check the address on your appointment letter.
  2. 2Find your entrance.
  3. 3Look for your zone.
  4. 4If you need help finding your way, ask a staff member, visit the Welcome Centre at 700 William Avenue, or use one of the Information phones inside HSC.
  5. 5Vehicles cannot be left unattended in 10-minute loading zones at entrances (except Adult Emergency and Children’s Emergency).
  6. 6Please be courteous and do not block the way of other drivers, ambulances and health care staff in metered parking areas.
  7. 7A loonie must be used to access a Staxi chair; it will be returned when the Staxi is returned to the rack.
  8. 8Please have a family member or friend accompany you if you need to use a Staxi.
  9. 9Do not remove wheelchairs from HSC.
  10. 10Bring Manitoba Health card, identification, private insurance cards, social insurance number (SIN card), pen to complete forms for Labour & Delivery.
  11. 11Bring personal toiletries, comfortable clothes, tablet, headphones, chargers, books, snacks, and drinks for Labour & Delivery.
  12. 12Bring an approved infant car seat and going home outfit for baby for Labour & Delivery.
  13. 13Complete the Registration of Birth in Manitoba form before going home with your newborn.
  14. 14For surgery, bring Manitoba Health card, identification, private insurance cards. Leave valuables at home.
  15. 15For surgery, bring comfortable and loose clothing, personal toiletries, tablet, headphones, chargers, books, snacks, and drinks.
  16. 16Arrive at the hospital 2 hours prior to your surgery time.
  17. 17Remember your case number for surgery tracking.
  18. 18No solid food or alcohol after midnight the night before surgery.
  19. 19You may drink clear fluids (no pop or sports drinks) up until 2 hours before you are told to arrive at the hospital on the day of surgery.
  20. 20Continue with your medications as ordered by your surgeon or anesthesiologist on the morning of surgery with a sip of water.
  21. 21Arrange for a ride home after your surgery; you are not permitted to drive for 24 hours.
  22. 22If admitted, alcohol is not permitted in patient rooms.
  23. 23Your baby must be placed in a bassinette if you are walking in the hallways outside of your room to prevent falls.
