Patient Instructions:
  • Fast for 12 hours prior to Biological Terrain Assessment (BTA) test, completing dinner by 5:00-6:00 PM the evening prior. Refrain from eating or drinking anything after dinner until after the test (including gum and candy).
  • If on regular medications, take them as prescribed with a small amount of water two hours before the BTA test.
  • Drink plenty of water the day before the BTA test.
  • Refrain from using mouthwashes or mouth rinses the night before and morning of the BTA test. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water after cleaning teeth 12 hours prior.
  • Avoid using lipstick or makeup around the mouth and lips on the day of the BTA test.
  • If getting up at night to urinate for BTA test, take a sample only after 3 AM.
  • For Darkfield Microscopy, fast (no food) for 6 hours.
  • For Darkfield Microscopy, if possible, refrain from all supplements and medications for 24 hours before the test.
  • For Darkfield Microscopy, drink plenty of water beforehand.
