  • If possible, wear a two-piece outfit for mammogram and breast ultrasound exams.
  • If you have sensitive breasts, schedule your mammogram between the 7th and 10th day following the onset of your most recent menstrual period.
  • Inform your doctor and technologist of any new problems with your breasts, prior surgeries, hormone use, and family or personal history of breast cancer.
  • Inform your doctor and technologist if there is any possibility that you are pregnant.
  • Discuss any medication you are taking with your physician prior to breast biopsy procedures.
  • Discontinue the use of blood-thinning medications, including aspirin and aspirin-like products, prior to breast biopsy procedures.
  • Wear comfortable and easy to remove clothing from the waist up for breast biopsy procedures.
  • Do not use deodorant, underarm powders or creams before breast biopsy procedures.
  • Eat a light meal before breast biopsy procedures.
  • Limit liquids before breast biopsy procedures.
  • Wear a soft supportive bra for 24 hours following breast biopsy procedures and apply ice packs intermittently.
  • Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for 24 hours after breast biopsy procedures.
  • Remain off blood thinning medications for 48 hours after breast biopsy procedures.
  • Remove all metal objects before entering the MRI Suite for Breast MRI and MRI-Guided Breast Biopsy.
  • If you are breastfeeding, it is recommended to completely finish lactating before having a routine screening mammogram.
