• Arrange for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
• Go to bed and rest, lying on your back, with your head elevated with 2-3 pillows at a 45-degree angle for the first night after surgery.
• Take medication as directed.
• Place ice packs on the nose the first 48 hours (on for 20 minutes, then off for 20 minutes).
• If you have an active nosebleed (continuous stream of blood), lean forward and squeeze the tip of your nose with moderate pressure for 10 minutes.
• NO heavy lifting for 10 days after surgery.
• No nose picking and/or nose blowing for 14 days after surgery.
• Do not blow your nose during the 2 weeks after surgery; use nasal saline spray instead.
• If you need to sneeze during the 2 weeks after surgery, do so with your mouth open.
• Apply Vaseline to external incisions at least twice per day to keep them moist.
• Leave tape and/or plastic splint on the outside of the nose in place.
• You may wash around the rest of your face with soap and water as usual, but try not to get the tape wet and/or inadvertently remove the cast.
• Expect to eat a liquid and soft diet for the first few days after surgery.
• Keep your head elevated to minimize swelling.
• Avoid any impact to the nose while the structures inside and out are healing.
• Avoid activities such as heavy lifting, excessive exertion, sun exposure or any activity that would increase the risk of injury.
• If you wear glasses, be careful not to exert excess pressure on the bridge of the nose.
• Keep your follow-up appointments with your surgeon.
