• Bring OHIP card and doctor’s requisition
• Arrive 15 minutes early
• Call if unable to make appointment or running late
• Take medications as per doctor’s orders
• Avoid perfumes and fragrances
• Avoid clothing with metal buttons, buckles, or zippers
• Tell technologist if pregnant or could be pregnant
• Diabetics with ‘clear liquid’ orders should schedule in the morning
• Discuss insulin dosages with doctor
• Refer to the back of the requisition for exams that require prior preparation
• For X-ray, remove jewelry or garments with metal closures
• For Ultrasound, wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing; remove all clothing and jewelry in the area to be examined; may be asked to wear a gown; may be instructed not to eat or drink for up to 8 hours before appointment; may be asked to drink 5 glasses of water an hour prior to exam for full bladder (if advised upon booking)
• For Bone Mineral Density, don’t take calcium or iron supplements for 24 hours before the exam; if had injection of barium or contrast dye for CT/MRI, wait 7 days; avoid wearing clothes with metal zippers, belts, or buttons
• For Ophthalmology, do not wear eye make-up to the tests; do not rub eyes until anesthetic has completely worn off after test
