Patient Instructions
  1. 1Patients can continue to choose to wear a mask, if this is their preference, and can supply a mask if a patient is in need of one.
  2. 2A patient can choose the option of waiting in their vehicle until the office can accommodate a patient in our examination rooms.
  3. 3Our office will continue to attempt to accommodate patients for concerns of routine/less-urgent nature by telephone or secure patient email.
  4. 4If you are sick with mild symptoms (cough, runny nose, sore throat), stay at home. Follow the self-isolation guidelines of Alberta.
  5. 5If you have respiratory symptoms (like a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing) and you think you need to see a doctor, CALL FIRST, BEFORE COMING TO THE CLINIC.
  6. 6Patients will be required to create an account to access Medeo Virtual Healthcare service.
  7. 7Patients should ensure they check their notifications/messages when a communication is sent, as the content of our communications may be important or time-sensitive.
  8. 8Those ill with symptoms should isolate for 10 days following onset of symptoms, or until well (whichever is longer).
  9. 9For IUD insertion, use a back-up form of birth control or remain abstinent for at least 2 weeks prior to getting your IUD.
  10. 10For IUD insertion, take an anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), or naproxen (Aleve) about 30-60 minutes before your procedure.
  11. 11For IUD insertion, notify staff if you are particularly anxious about the procedure for arrangements to administer calming medicine.
  12. 12For IUD insertion, bring a pad with you which you will need after the procedure.
  13. 13For IUD insertion, read and sign a consent form upon arrival.
  14. 14For IUD insertion, notify the doctor if you are ill in any way, are suffering from any vaginal infections, or if you have irregular menstrual bleeding.
  15. 15For IUD insertion, ensure all questions are answered before the IUD is inserted.
  16. 16For IUD insertion, you are welcome to bring a friend for support.
  17. 17For IUD insertion, you can ask for a separate consultation visit to discuss the IUD/IUS.
  18. 18Immediately after IUD insertion, do not insert anything into the vagina for 24 hours (i.e. no tampons, bathing, swimming, hot tub, or sexual intercourse).
  19. 19After IUD insertion, book a check-up at our IUD clinic if you experience any unusual pelvic symptoms or if your partner is bothered by the strings.
  20. 20Approximately 6 weeks after IUD insertion, book an appointment to check the IUD strings.
  21. 21For Nexplanon insertion, use a back-up form of birth control or remain abstinent for at least two weeks before inserting NEXPLANON.
  22. 22For Nexplanon insertion, you may be asked to complete a pregnancy test or schedule the appointment for a specific time in your menstrual cycle.
  23. 23For 24 hours after Nexplanon insertion, wear a pressure bandage.
  24. 24An adhesive bandage will remain in place for three days after Nexplanon insertion.
  25. 25Keep the Nexplanon user card with your medical records.
  26. 26Before the end of the third year after Nexplanon insertion, book an appointment to remove the implant.
  27. 27After Nexplanon removal, start another birth control method right away if you do not want to get pregnant.
  28. 28For hemorrhoid banding, refrain from vigorous activities the rest of the day and resume full activity the next day.
