The Division of Respirology and Sleep Medicine Trust Fund was established to enhance teaching and scholarly activity, purchase equipment, and support research. The Respiratory Investigation Unit (RIU) is a clinical respiratory physiology research group dedicated to studying the neurophysiologic mechanisms of dyspnea and activity limitation in patients with cardiorespiratory diseases. The RIU is the site of several innovative research studies for the Laboratory of Clinical Exercise Physiology (LACEP) and the Integrative Cardiopulmonary Physiology Lab. Research studies are funded by CIHR, NSERC, SEAMO, Queen's University, TIME, and PSI Foundation. The unit also participates in international clinical trials led by AstraZeneca. The Queen's CardioPulmonary Unit (QCPU) is an $8 million dollar, 8000 square foot research facility focused on a Bench-to-Bedside philosophy with emphasis on heart, lung, blood and vascular diseases. QCPU was funded by a Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) grant and opened in 2017. The Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit (GIDRU) is a multidisciplinary group with strong links between laboratory bench and bedside.
Pulmonary Function Tests Laboratory, Queen's CardioPulmonary Unit (QCPU) with state-of-the-art basic science research facility and onsite Kingston Health Sciences Center (KHSC) satellite clinic, imaging facilities, flow and sorting cytometer, 2-photon confocal microscope, tri-modality micro-scanner, Next Generation Sequencing with a NexSeq 550 sequencer, Fluidigm Helio/Hyperion mass cytometer.
