Patient Instructions
  1. 1Arrive a few minutes early to register.
  2. 2Bring a signed requisition from your physician and a valid health card for all tests.
  3. 3Use scent-free products when entering facilities.
  4. 4For Barium Studies: Nothing to eat or drink after 10pm the night before. Do not chew gum or smoke the morning of the study. Consume extra fluids for 24 hours after the exam.
  5. 5For Immigration X-ray: Bring signed referral form from a panel physician, eMedical documents, and health card/IHF certificate.
  6. 6For Mammography: Limit caffeine consumption 2 days prior. DO NOT USE deodorant, powder, or moisturizer the day of the study.
  7. 7For Ultrasound: Inform booking clerk if diabetic for fasting exams. For Abdominal Ultrasound, nothing to eat or drink after midnight, no gum. For Abdominal and Pelvic Ultrasound, nothing to eat after midnight, no gum, drink 5 large glasses of water 1 hour before and do not empty bladder. For Pelvic or Obstetrical Ultrasound, drink 5 large glasses of water 1 hour before and do not empty bladder. For Vascular Ultrasound (Portal Vein), nothing to eat or drink after midnight, no gum. For Femoral Peripheral Arterial, nothing to eat or drink 4 hours before. Wear a loose two-piece outfit for other vascular studies.
  8. 8For X-ray: Inform technologist if pregnant or suspect pregnancy. Female patients aged 10-55 will be asked pregnancy status. Inform technologist of previous trauma or surgery to the area.
  9. 9For Bone Mineral Densitometry: Do not take any calcium supplements the day of the study. Reschedule if you have had DYE INJECTED, NUCLEAR MEDICINE or BARIUM TESTS in the past two weeks. Remove naval rings before examination. Inform receptionist or technologist immediately if pregnant or suspect pregnancy.
  10. 10For Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy: Wear comfortable 2-piece clothing. Have someone available to drive you home after the procedure. Take medications as prescribed, except blood thinners (contact clinic if taking). Keep puncture site dry until scab forms.
