Instructions

  1. For Bone Densitometry Testing (DEXA): Arrive 15 minutes prior to appointment, inform if recent studies involved contrast dye, temporarily stop calcium two days prior, wear clothing without zippers/buttons/hooks/underwire.
  2. For Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Change into appropriate attire, remove jewelry/watches/hairpins/bobby pins/hearing aids/electronics/wallets, may be asked to not eat/drink prior depending on procedure, inform technologist about surgeries/pacemaker/aneurysm clips/cochlear implants/neurostimulators/grinding metal in eyes/implanted drug infusion devices/shrapnel or bullets/metallic items/IUD/pregnancy/claustrophobia.
  3. For Cat Scan (CT): Arrive early, do not eat solid foods in the four hours leading up to scan (clear liquids only), wear comfortable clothes and remove metal jewelry/clothing, may need blood test, may need allergy medication if allergic to contrast agent, drink oral contrast solution as directed.
