Instructions

  1. For Echocardiogram: Do not eat or drink anything for at least 3 hours before the test. Do not do any type of strenuous physical activity on the day of test. Do not smoke for at least 3 hours before the test. Tell your doctor about all medications. Wear a comfortable two-piece outfit and walking shoes.
  2. For Nuclear Stress Test: Do not eat or drink anything for 4 - 6 hours before your test. Do not eat or drink any caffeinated products for 12 hours before your test. Report all medications and ask if any should be stopped. Do not take over-the-counter medications that contain caffeine. If pregnant or nursing, tell staff. Diabetics should ask doctor about insulin dosage or not take diabetes pills until after the test.
  3. For Adenosine: Two days before test, drink plenty of water, no caffeine or decaf products, no tobacco products, no Beta Blockers or calcium channel blocker heart medication, no Persantine, Dipyrodamole or Theophylline within 24 hours. On test day, drink at least 16 oz. of water, no food or drinks (other than water) 5 hours before test. Wear a short sleeve shirt, no metal objects on chest. Bring inhalers as needed. Notify staff if pregnant, severe diabetic, have asthma, COPD, CHF, second or third degree heart block, heart attack in last 5 days, barium study within one week, or claustrophobic.
