Patient Instructions
  1. 1You must arrange for someone to drive you home following a colonoscopy.
  2. 2After colonoscopy, you must not drive or operate heavy machinery until 6:00 am the following morning.
  3. 3After colonoscopy, refrain from any legal or financial decisions, or alcohol consumption for 24 hours after receiving IV sedation.
  4. 4For gastroscopy, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home and should have a friend or relative stay with you for the rest of the day.
  5. 5After gastroscopy, do not eat or drink until you can swallow normally.
  6. 6For gastroscopy, do not drink hot drinks until the local anesthetic has fully worn off.
  7. 7For gastroscopy, contact your doctor if you cough up or vomit blood, have blood in your feces, or have abdominal/shoulder pain that gradually gets worse.
  8. 8For gastroscopy, inform your doctor if you are taking anticoagulant medicines.
  9. 9For gastroscopy, you must not eat or drink for eight hours before your procedure.
