The department members are active researchers and teachers at Dalhousie Medical School who have a keen interest in latest advances in anesthesia care. Researchers focus primarily on research in pain, airway management, and perioperative inflammation and organ protection. Outcomes research and device development are also areas of concentration. The Pediatric Pain Service conducts groundbreaking research, particularly in chronic pain. The thoracic anesthesia team conducts research, primarily in post-operative pain following thoracic surgery. Specialized anesthesiologists take part in research projects in collaboration with other Canadian transplant centres to advance the field of transplantation anesthesia. Faculty members are active teachers and researchers, focusing on women's post-operative pain.
